Integration Blog

During our Emerging Technologies Seminar series, we have learned and gathered new ideas and important information regarding the latest and emerging trends in Information Technology. We have been exposed to the current status of the technology today. Several speakers have conducted talks about their topic of expertise. Some speakers made an excellent discussion but some only made us sleepy. Some topics became very interesting because of the topics that we can relate.
One topic that really catches my interest is the Mobile technology trends. It made me realize how technology evolves very fast. From the hype 3310 and its best game space impact to the all in one phone nowadays, it is amazing how people can easily adopt to the fast paced trends in mobile computing. Now, a phone is not just a phone but an organiser, a mini pc, and a lot more. There are also other seminars about mobile technology trends there is a seminar about mobile can be used us other gadgets like GPS, there is also a concept phone that can used as a watch or can be folded and be made as a pocket beeper-like device.
Highlights of the other seminars included the Business intelligence, it is a good talk, with a good speaker, he makes the seminar interactive and the audience also participated because he got the interest of the audience in the topic. He explains the importance of this and how it can greatly help to a company. I understand that Business Intelligence can be compared to a special query where it is easy to gather data and produce useful information for them for easier decision making in the company.
Technical seminars I think are the ones that bore me, the speakers are just like teaching new programming languages, or frameworks. Like the No SQL where the topic is very technical that we can’t catch up on what it is really saying.
In some other aspects regarding the seminar duration, the low audience turn out is very evident in all the seminars. Sometimes, this can be embarrassing to the speaker because it is a Saturday and he or she made an effort to go to school.
All in all, the Emerging Technologies seminar series is a good way to end my academic term. It equips me with the latest ideas in Emerging Technologies and trends as well as the different thing to be aware with regards to these things. It is a helpful addition to our knowledge so that we can catch up with the face paced system in this ever changing world.

4G

This seminar became more of a marketing talk of Wi-Tribe. I don't know if they pay some money to talk about their product to us or the school management just have no idea. Anyway, the speaker discussed about how 4G technology works and its advantages over 3G and other internet lines. They said that even thought they are not the first to have the technology in the Philippines, they have the fastest and most consistent ISP there is. And I quite believe in them because they are honest enough to tell that the data rate will be slower and slower as the bandwidth allocation for the month will be consumed. The speaker also says that this happens to all service provider, they just don't tell it when you won't ask. I think that is a good marketing strategy because you can really caught the trust of your customers when the company will be sincere. Overall, its a good talk, and its a n effective way of getting the audience subscribe to their product.

2nd Week: Business Intelligence

The speaker took his definition of Business Intelligence from Wikipedia. It says: Business Intelligence (BI) refers to computer-based techniques used in spotting, digging-out, and analyzing business data, such as sales revenue by products and/or departments or associated costs and incomes.
After some discussion of it, I got and idea that Business Intelligence can be some kind of better queries in the Database. After getting it out, it can now be analyzed and used. I also understand that Business Intelligence is so good that it can organize huge amount of data. It can even handle the most unorganized data like in Facebook. I think that this Technology can be very helpful to a lot of companies.

Overall, this seminar is great. Good speaker, great topic, and better venue compared to the old ISR seminar room.

1st Week: Mobile Content and Emerging technologies in it

This was a good starter for the EM-TECH Seminar series. I think that the audience can relate this topic becaue of the overwhelmingly fast paced development of mobile technologies. I remember when I got my first phone 3310, I was so happy because of its moving images and it has the greatest mobile game that time, Space Impact!   I've felt even more cooler when I had my first colored phone. SE T68i though it is some kind of a weird phone because even thought it is colored, it still has the beeper-like monophonic tones, which I think makes it unique.

The speaker interestingly discussed the topic. The speaker talked about how people right now don't really care about their privacy. People are really fond of broadcasting their private life, from the moment they wake up 'till they sleep. Handheld gaming became more of a drastic competition not only with the game giants bu twit all the mobile devices due to the mobile applications nowadays. I really believe that People can never be contented, so they will always look for more..always

1st Week: No SQL

I can say that this topic was technical, so technical that I lost my interest with it. But it's not the speaker's fault, he's good. He explains it casually and I saw his interest on the the topic while he is discussing it. But unfortunately, his audience (including me) has short attention span that I myself chose to watch the other bored people on what they are doing g. In fairness, this alternative for SQL sounds great, I just wished that it can be explained in a less technical way.

1st Week: Cloud Computing

Since the start of my exposure to the technical aspect of Information Technology, Cloud Computing has always been a common topic when a fast growing  new technology is being talked about. I've heard some description of this thing, but I really don't understand how it works until I attended this seminar. So yes, the speaker is quite effective, he's knowledgeable about the topic, and being spontaneous gives me the idea that he really know what he's saying. I just wished that more people attended the seminar so that it can justify the size of the reserved room which is the ISR. For my comments on the topic, I believe that Cloud Computing became a breakthrough in managing data and information of a company or an institution and I think it is a great help, but thought I'm not sure what are the catches are, I also believe that this technology still have some flaws.
